Proverb of the day :- There is no smoke without fire
Meaning / example :-
Gossip and hearsay often has some truth within it, even though the stories themselves may not be entirely true . Wherever there is a fire burning you will always find some smoke, therefore, it follows, that if you see smoke there must be some fire to create it. This is a common proverb and is in fact probably one of the most known proverbs in the English language. It probably crops up on a daily basis somewhere or other. It is usually quoted as is, or with’you know what they say’ preceding it.
